CAPS LOCK STUCK ON

This is a really annoying error that used to happen to me a lot but hasn't happened for ages. I thought I'd already blogged about it but clearly not. Anyway, today it happened again. I suspect this is the first time it happened on my work laptop, which runs Windows 7. So the blog I thought I'd written is probably just a note on my personal WinXP laptop.

I don't know what I did, obviously pressed some kind of sticky key combo, but no matter what I typed it came out as upper case. I could toggle my caps lock on and off and to all intents and purposes when it was off it looked off, that is the light went off. But I still typed in caps. I tried toggling the shift key, which should give me lower case when my caps lock is on. But that didn't work either.

The solution is astoundingly simple:

Start, All Programs, Accessories, Ease of Access (or Accessibility in WinXP), On-Screen Keyboard. Click the Caps Lock key on the on screen keyboard.
Job done.

I'm sure I had a different solution for WinXP but this one worked for me today on Windows 7.

UPDATE: This did not fix the problem within Word. It seems I inadvertently hit Ctrl+F3 whilst trying to adjust the brightness on my screen. This key combo shifts the case between upper, lower and sentence. To resolve just toggle Ctrl+F3 until you get the case you want.

  7. I ran KeyTweak to fix my left CapsLock key as left Control and then the corporate guys took away my administrative privilege. Then, somehow, the CapsLock got stuck on and it persisted through a reboot! This got me unstuck, so THANK YOU SO MUCH.

  10. Thanks muchly for this! I'd never find this advice in Microsoft's cyberworld. I could be rude about MS, But I won't, however, I'll say this. Microsoft has gone stir crazy in its dramatic "over-engineering" and "over-prettifying" of Windows 7 and its screen appearances. MS has forgotten the "80:20 rule", i.e. to give users preferred menu access to those commands that do 80% of your tasks. Windows Explorer is a good place to get lost in. Oh, but for a simple facility where I could modify the appearance of my data folders so as not to get lost in the drive I think I'm in - but I'm elsewhere! A quick way to accidentally delete latest file versions! Whilst it's a superior O/S to WinXP Pro, Win 7 is a lot harder to manage and is far too time consuming. I use tools to get the job done, the tools aren't my bread and butter. I'm looking at Apple for my next machines.... but I'll preview Windows 8 O/S, as I have a lot of Windows-based apps. Goodnight.

  15. That seems to have done it for now. Mine keeps coming back on even after sticky keys is disabled. I read that this can also be caused by a keyboard not agreeing with your current computer. Pretty much every time sticky keys turns on again even though I know I have it check marked I hate windows 8 a little bit more.

  16. A local locksmith with typically have a local number, this is the easiest way to spot a local independent locksmith, some may have a nationwide low rate number if they cover quiet a large area, if this is the case then a quick visit to their website should disclose their locality, if a locksmith doesn't have at least an address on their website keep away from them as there is something not quiet right. flatratelocknkey-denver.com

A competent locksmith will more often than not have a decent mobile optimised website that will have their address at the very least and maybe a location map showing their location or the areas they cover. You will usually find a list of services they offer and most locksmiths offer an emergency call out service for home/business lock outs but not all locksmiths offer automotive services so make sure you check that they are suitable for the job.
